British Shorthair(BSH) is one of the oldest breed in pedigree cats and is the second popular breed in the UK just behind the Persian. BSH is also well known with its breed history as an ancient breed of domestic cat of Rome. BSH can be said to be a model breed with strong and representative genotypes over the cat family. They have magnificent gene pool, which give very standard physical outlook but versatile colors and extremely health offspring. They are attractive to not only the breeders and also the cat lovers.

Strong and 'well-engineered' body

British Shorthair has a cobby body shape, which is medium short They have broad chest, straight back and strong shoulder. Though they seem short, they still have the best mobility as their legs are in equal and tailored length with well-developed muscles. The toes and paws are round and large enough to be a good predator. Their heads and cheeks are round, look like two circles and always described as 'Teddy Bear'. The oval ears are set low and well apart according to the round eyes. The eyes colors should be pure and deep enough and varying according to the colors of coat. Their medium and thick neck support the big head. The length of tail is about the body length and rounded at the tip.

BSH have very strong body and most are born healthy. They become mature rather slowly than other breeds and will be heavier than the non-pedigree cat.
